The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) provides funding and support for Australians with a permanent and significant disability to improve their quality of life and independence.

To be eligible, you must be:
Under 65 years old when you apply
An Australian citizen, permanent resident, or hold a Protected Special Category Visa
Have a permanent and significant disability that affects your ability to participate in daily activities

You can apply by:
Calling the NDIS on 1800 800 110
Completing an Access Request Form via the NDIS website
Seeking assistance from a Local Area Coordinator (LAC) or support provider
NDIS Plans and Funding

An NDIS plan can include funding for:
Core Supports (daily activities, transport, consumables)
Capital Supports (assistive technology, home modifications)
Capacity Building Supports (therapy, employment training, skill development)

You can manage your funding in three ways:
NDIA-managed: Providers are paid directly by the NDIS.
Plan-managed: A registered plan manager helps handle your funds.
Self-managed: You control and pay for services yourself.

Yes, you can request a plan review if your needs change. There are two types of reviews:
Scheduled review: Happens automatically at the end of your plan’s period.
Unscheduled review: Can be requested if your circumstances change significantly.

Depending on your plan, you may receive:
Support coordination
Occupational therapy, physiotherapy, and speech therapy
Personal care and household assistance
Social and community participation programs
Assistive technology and mobility aids

If your plan is NDIA-managed, you must use registered providers.
If your plan is self-managed or plan-managed, you can choose both registered and unregistered providers.

Yes, you can switch providers at any time by notifying your current provider and finding a new one that meets your needs.
Payments and Costs
Does the NDIS cover all disability-related expenses?
The NDIS funds reasonable and necessary supports but does not cover:
General living costs (e.g., rent, groceries, bills)
Medical and hospital services covered by Medicare
Supports provided by family or informal carers

Claims can be made through:
The NDIS myplace portal
Your plan manager (if applicable)
